"The union between aesthetics and medicine put into action in designs has an essential musical dimension. According to Herlinda Agustín, a renowned designer and ayahuasca artist, “each Kené design is a song (bewa)”. And each song has a healing purpose in the broad sense of health conceived by the Shipibo-Konibo, that is, as a state of personal, social and spiritual well-being. There are designs-songs for the body, to rejoice, to achieve love, to obtain knowledge, and many more designs-songs according to the state of the person to whom one wants to beautify, that is, to heal."
